About the "Duets" Series |
My love of still life is inspired greatly by master painters of the history of art. I juxtapose my still life objects with theirs, creating what I think of as conversations or duets. Reference to the work of these artists whom I greatly admire has been among the subjects of my own pieces from the beginning of my career. In this series, “Duets”, I am creating dialogues between earlier works and my own still lifes. I see it, also, as a commentary on still life as a genre, in the past and now in the 21st century. I am interested in the differences and similarities in the way we treat color, composition, and space, and I hope the viewer does too. |
