About My Paintings |
I am interested in ambiguous spatial relationships. To that end, I combine figures and objects with differing viewpoints and light sources which could not exist realistically in the same space and time. While some elements in the compositions are depicted in a purely frontal manner, others are presented from oblique angles. I love color, not just for the sensuous beauty, but also for the amazing abilities to fool us into seeing depths of space where there is only the flat surface of a canvas. Color thus helps me to establish the dialogue I seek between a traditional, three-dimensional "windows into the world" and the actual flat, two-dimensional surface. Within a framework of realism, I try to create abstraction and I hope to communicate this to the viewer. |
