About  My Photography

As a widely-exhibited and collected painter seeking a new challenge, I eventually succumbed to a long-held attraction to black and white photography and began to explore this rich medium. Now I am completely devoted to it and find it to be as ravishing and complex as color is in painting.

I use only natural light to photograph my still life compositions. I love the way the light bathes the objects and gives them form. Perhaps, because i come from a painting background, I like to imagine that the degrees of light and depths of shadow are my brushes and palette.

In closely examining the mundane objects in my still lifes, for me they have achieved a dignity and monumentality not immediately recognized in everyday life, and I strive to bring this realization to the viewer.
